Fourth Grade
BIBLE (POSITIVE ACTION FOR CHRIST)
Bible is a daily class, which introduces Bible truths showing students how God wants them to live. Scripture reading, memorization and discussion help students develop practical life application. Students also attend weekly chapel services.HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY (ABEKA)
The History/Geography course is the students’ first formal study of United States history. They study major people and events that took place from beginning explorations to the founding of our great country and beyond. They spend six weeks studying about North Carolina. Included in this study is a day trip to our state capital, Raleigh. In geography, students study North America, Europe, North Carolina and the capitals of the United States.LANGUAGE (ABEKA)
Students in the Language course learn to identify and classify the eight parts of speech as used in sentences. They learn simple and compound subjects and verbs. Students study expository and persuasive paragraph writing as well as journaling and letter writing.MATH (ABEKA)
The Math course reviews basic mathematical concepts and teaches new concepts such as two and three digit multiplication, long division, solving equations, finding area and perimeter, and writing decimals as fractions. Emphasis is placed on fractions as students learn to add, subtract and multiply fractions with common and uncommon denominators. The student also has practice in reducing and changing fractions to mixed or whole numbers.READING (ABEKA)
Students read stories, poems and novels that develop vocabulary skills and strengthen their reading comprehension. They learn to recall facts and apply reasoning skills. Reading selections place an emphasis on character and patriotism. Timed skill exercises teach students to read quickly and with comprehension. Students practice their oral reading by using the Bible as a text.SCIENCE (ACSI – PURPOSEFUL DESIGN)
This course is an engaging hands-on program that encourages students to: acquire new information, gain proficiency in research, work collaboratively with other students, think critically, use scientific tools, do measurements, solve problems, and evaluate results. Life science, physical science, earth and space science, and the human body are all studied with an emphasis on experimentation and observation.SPELLING (ACSI)
This series approaches spelling as a critical literacy skill that strengthens reading and writing ability. Spelling strategies such as word sorting by phonetic pattern, developing vocabulary through word study, and using the writing process to compose original stories pervade the books. The five-day instructional format of the word list lessons begins with the “Warm Up” (Pretest) on Day 1 and concludes with the “Wrap Up” (Posttest) on Day 5. Day 2 is reserved for “Phonics” instruction, Day 3 for “Word Study,” and Day 4 for “Writing.” Lesson activities strengthen the students’ skills in decoding, encoding, vocabulary, word building, proof reading, and creative word application in daily writing.
